Want to Get Everyone on the Same Page and Pulling Together? Personal Validation is the Secret Sauce
What if we could all feel like important, valuable people?
People who are heard and included in everything that matters to them. What would happen then?
We all make different plans with family, work, and peer groups to attain goals. Engaging all group members in a meaningful way will validate the individual worth in a personal manner that matters. Validated humans will buy into the plan, own it personally, and own the results.
What Is Emotional Validation?Â
Personal validation is the emotional equivalent of physical touch.
It has been shown to have a calming effect on emotional stress, and it helps us feel heard and understood by those around us. In other words, emotional validation can help soothe our emotional needs in much the same way that physical contact with others provides comfort for infants!
Emotionally validated individuals feel supported, respected, and heard.
Validation is an integral part of emotional intelligence.
People who are emotionally validated are more engaged and better able to function in their interpersonal relationships.
In other words, they enjoy a greater sense of well-being throughout each day! This increased emotional resilience has also been associated with lower stress, exhaustion, burnout, depression, and social withdrawal symptoms.
The last thing we want is for any family member to feel unworthy of love and attention.
However, many of us are not taught effective emotional validation strategies as we grow up.
This lack of emotional literacy can lead to difficulty in interpersonal relationships later on!
The good news is that emotional validation doesn't require formal training or education; it simply involves putting into practice what you already know on a conscious level. As emotional intelligence can be taught, it is vital to continue learning about emotional validation and effectively supporting those around you!
There are many ways to validate someone in an interpersonal relationship.
In the next post, I will share different actions to provide emotional validation and how you can put them into practice in your own life!
